Ring, Ring (1973)
Méně známé debutové album skupiny, které zaznamenalo větší úspěch až při své reedici v pozdějších letech. Písně v řadě případů vycházejí z rockenrolových základů, dívčí hlasy nemají tolik prostoru jako v dalších nahrávkách skupiny a charakteristický zvuk Abby se zde teprve utváří. Z dnešního pohledu jsou určitě nejzajímavější méně známé písně I Am Just a Girl a Me And Bobby And Bobby´s Brother, jejichž příjemná melodičnost a sólové party zpěvaček (v prvním případě Agnetha, ve druhé Frida) nejvíce předznamenávají pozdější hudební vývoj skupiny. Zajímavostí na albu je skladba Disillussion, kterou složila a také nazpívala sama Agnetha. Tehdejší hity – titulní Ring, Ring, He Is Your Brother či Love Isn´t Easy. Z dalších skladeb lze doporučit: Nina, Pretty Balerina, Rock´n Roll Band či Another Town, Another Train.
Waterloo (1974)
Album a především titulní singl, kterým vstoupila skupina do širokého povědomí. Pro soutěž Velká cena Eurovize se v roce 1974 ABBA rozhodovala právě mezi energickou (stále ještě rokenrolem zavánějící) Waterloo a sladce snovou, silně melodickou Hasta Maňana, kde dokonale exceluje čistý vokál Agnethy. Waterloo jim nakonec otevřelo cestu ke slávě a dodnes patří mezi oblíbené kousky skupiny, nicméně i Hasta Mañana patří do zlatého fondu popu. Na albu najdeme další velký hit – Honey, Honey. Svého velkého sóla se zde dočkala i Frida s pomalejší písní Gonna Sing You My Lovesong. Zbytek alba osciluje mezi rockem (nezvykle drsná King Kong Song) či rokenrolem.
ABBA (1975)
"Klasická" deska skupiny, kde poprvé skupina použila svůj recept „co píseň, to potenciální hit“. Až na jednu výjimku si skutečně lze představit, že každá skladba může být potenciálním singlem. Tím prvním byla mile nostalgická I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, následovaná klasikou S.O.S. a nesmrtelnou Mamma Mia. V některých teritoriích se prosadily také odpichovky Rock Me, So Long, Bang-a-Boomerang, mezi Agnethiny fanoušky si našla hodně příznivců balada I´ve Been Waiting For You, Frida obohatila svůj repertoár příjemným reggae Tropical Loveland. Pro tuto desku je příznačná bohatost hudebních stylů.
Arrival (1976)
Dodnes nejprodávanější album akupiny, které se jen v britské hitparádě drželo neuvěřitelných 92 týdnů. Poprvé na tomto albu se objevil nápis ABBA s obráceným „B“ a poprvé skupina předkládala posluchačům své nové písně z pozice celosvětově známé kapely. Nutno říci, že Arrival jejich slávu ještě upevnil. Hned prvním singlem Dancing Queen dobyla skupina všechny respektované hitparády a píseň se stala také jejich jediným číslem 1 v USA. Následující Money, Money Money je dodnes hymnou všech byznysmanů a třetí singl Knowing Me, Knowing You podpořený vynikajícím videoklipem přinesl do světových hitparád severskou melancholii a hloubku. I další skladby jako When I Kissed The Teacher, That´s Me, Dum Dum Diddle, či Tiger, slouží i po letech jako ukázka úderného a v nejlepším slova smyslu líbivého popu.
The Album (1977)
V pořadí páté, „bezejmenné“ album skupiny přineslo zřetelný posun ke složitějším hudebním kompozicím a přineslo skupině pochvalné reakce nejen od fanoušků, ale i uznání hudební kritiky. Hned úvodní píseň Eagle je více jak pětiminutová záležitost, odkazující svojí těžkou atmosférou na severský původ skupiny. Druhá skladba, chytlavá Take a Chance On Me se stala jedním z největších hitů této čtveřice s legendárním videoklipem, trefně zparodovaným na počátku 90. let skupinou Erasure. Specialitou alba se stala ukázka z minimuzikálu The Girl with Golden Hair, který ABBA představila během svého světového turné v roce 1977. Mezi třemi skladbami si nesmrtelnost zajistila především první z nich – legendární Thank You For The Music. „The Album“ obsahuje pouhých devět písní a zůstává velkou otázkou, proč se na něm neobjevila i čtvrtá kompozice z muzikálu – vynikající rocková Get On The Caroussel, kterou skupina dodnes nevydala na žádném oficiálním nosiči. Fanoušky „klasické“ Abby na této desce určitě potěší skladba Move On, která přes svůj hitový potenciál kupodivu nevyšla na singlu.
Voulez-vous (1979)
Po krátké tvůrčí pauze věnované rodičovským povinnostem a urovnání soukromých vztahů se ABBA na konci 70. let přihlásila s dalším albem. Jeho zvuk se od předchozí hudby odlišil především větším použítím syntezátorů a důrazem na tehdejší módní vlnu diska. Typické harmonie a hitovost skupiny však zůstaly. Hned první singl Chiqutita se stal megahitem a díky španělské verzi otevřel skupině i trh Jižní Ameriky. Hudebně geniální „exotická“ píseň svou melodičností navázala na úspěch písně Fernando. Další singly Voulez-vous a Angeleyes už znamenaly hold dikotékovým parketům. Dalším singlem desky se stala skladba Does Mother Know, ve které si sólový part zazpíval zcela výjimečně Björn. Písně jako As Good As New, Kisses Of Fire či Fridina The King Has Lost His Crown se na A stranu siglových desek nedostaly. Posledním singlem alba se nakonec stal další „exotický slaďák“ I Have A Dream, tentokrát evokující řecké balady. Píseň vyšla v živé verzi jako vánoční dárek věrným fanouškům, a stala se tak pro Abbu úspěšným rozloučením se 70. léty.
Paradoxně nejúspěšnější se však na nich stala skladba Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight), která se objevila pouze na singlu doprovázející světové turné skupiny v září 1979 a na samotném albu chybí. Po více jako čtvrtstoletí sáhla po této písni zpěvačka Madonna, aby si vypůjčila úvodní fanfáry pro hlavní melodickou linku svého celosvětového hitu Hung Up.
